Biography

GRAND CHIEF MORRIS J. SWAN SHANNACAPPO

Morris Swan Shannacappo is serving his second term as Grand Chief for the member communities of the Southern Chiefs Organization (SCO). He was first elected in June 2007 and was re-elected in June 2010. Prior to becoming SCO Grand Chief, he served 5 terms (10 years) as Chief for his community at Rolling River Anishinaabe First Nation.

Grand Chief Swan Shannacappo is very passionate about many issues concerning First Nation people. He has been very vocal and has a keen interest on such topics as the environment, economic self-sustainability and the preservation of Treaty Rights for First Nations people in southern Manitoba.

Grand Chief Swan Shannacappo is a proud father of a son and three stepchildren. His strong belief in the traditional values keeps him busy with both family and cultural activities.

In his spare time, Grand Chief Swan Shannacappo enjoys singing, golfing and fishing.
